Bloodshed High Pitch

In order to apply the recognizable conventions or trailers, in groups we came up with the ideas how to market and promote a film called Bloodshed high.

Me and my partner Kally  came up with an idea based around the title bloodshed high. The synopsis was about a girl who is getting bullied but one day her bullies want to scare her but accidently kills her and make it look like suicide, now she wants revenge.  We think this is a good idea because some teenagers can relate to our story. our USP was also that teenagers can relate to it but it was also bullying awareness, our USP was also that it reflects the hopes and fears of contemporary london and it generates fear and aspiration. In our film we decided to have one mainstream actress (Shona McGarty) and other upcoming actors in the UK.

What i learnt from this was how to use the key codes and conventions of a film trailer to create our own horror trailer. I learnt that trailers are not short movies, they only show short cut clips from the movie in order to promote the movie enough for people to go and watch it. We learnt how to keep our audience engaged by this I mean what would the audience like to see, what will get there attention E.G. our last shot was the "supernatural being" we knew that this would make our audience scared and jumpy that is how we keep them engaged.

We applied all out knowledge and put it into out film trailer, like when we will tell them the name of the film and the release date, which actors and actress are starring in it. The enigma code as to what and how the "super natural being" is killing people, we give them tasters but not all. That is how we keep the engaged.

This task and presentation helped us in many ways because it allowed us to show and apply the codes and conventions of a film trailer.

Horror film poster analysis

5 horror posters
View more presentations from hgill1.

- I found that this exercise allowed me to see the difference and similarities in horror film posters.
- Most horror film trailers use the colours red, black and white. The colours gives us an idea of what the film is about e.g. Red often means blood.
- There are many different type of fonts used and they all indicate the genre of the film from blood slasher to supernatural
- The horror film poster gives us an inside to some of the settings in the film and the characters playing in the film. Film posters such as The Strangers shows us protagonist and the antagonist. It shows us who is the villain and the victim in the film.
This is a way of film posters to promote.

Trailer Analysis

                              - Family and friendly movie.
  Audience Expectations for walt disney

You know that it is going to be a good movie and disney related, you would not expect to see this with an action movie. You know that is going to be either an animation movie or cartoon. When you disney you know that it is going to be a high end and well distrubuted movie.

The trailer I am analyzing is 'The strangers'

The name of the film is often shown at the end of the trailer. The reason for this is that the name of the film is in our brain and that is all we can think about. If they showed the name of the film at the beginning of the trailer by the time the trailer is finished we would have
forgotten the name.

Similar to our trailer in our discussion the strangers trailer does everything the spiderman trailer does.

THE TRAILER REEL

For each trailer, try to say what you think the story will be. What clues have used to base your assumptions on? Are these clues presented through sound or visuals?

From the trailer one of the 1st scenes we see part of the company and from the name it gives us an idea of what type of film it is Also from the music, it music is very calm but deciving, then the sudden change of music finalises that the film is horror. From seeing many horror movies about demonic children e.g. hide and seek i am assuming that this is like one of those films. The child is demonic, From scenes in the movies I am guessing that murder will take place in the film..
There are different clues that tell us what type of film this is, these clues are portrayed thorough the music as well as the visuals.

This trailer is very different compared to the one above.

From seeing this you automatically know what type of film it is. When you see disney you are not expcting to see a horror movie. From the name of the film "princess and the frog" I have a very good idea that it will be about the classic story of the princess and the frog; a prince turns into a frog and princess has to kiss him to turn back to human. The voice over in the film tells us something different. Unlike the other trailer the sound plays a very big part in this trailer and in my opinion it plays a bigger part that then visuals.

The distributor's logo which appears at the beginning of each trailer is often used as a means for setting the mood of what follows
When seeing this logo, the font and the effect tell us that this film is most likely going to be a dark film. We might not get the idea that it is horror but we know that it is around that area. That might be horror or thriller or maybe sub-genres.
With this film the logo fits in with the type of film it is.

Inital Trailer Discussion

In class we were discussing 3 questions based on film trailers such as what do they do.

In this case we were watching the new spiderman trailer.

The 3 questions that were asked were
1) What is the production and intention of a film trailer ?
2) What effect should a film trailer have on the audience ?
3) What does a good trailer do?

Evaluation of Existing Web Logs

Blog Research
There are many different blogs, some are good and some are bad. Many use hyperlinks, slideshows, videos and photos, however some are not very good and do not use any of these.
In my blog i would use all of these :
- Photos - photos are good because it shows your reader what you are talking about not just a block of text.
- Videos - I think videos are good because at time you dont just want to read it you might want to hear it or watch it yourself.
-Slideshows - I would defiantly use slideshows because i think it is very creative and it will engage my reader.
Here are links of some blogs that i think are good
http://khloekardashian.celebuzz.com
http://perezhilton.com
I think they are good because they use a wide range of media and ICT techniques and a good use of colour
http://petesmediablog.blogspot.com/
I dont think this blog is good because it is very dull..only pictures they do not use a wide range on techniques.

Distribution

When films are made the PRINTS are owned by the film company. Many copies are made and the cinema rent the films in order to show them in the cinema. The company that duplicates prints at distributors these copies are called distributors.
The film is made and then sent to the distributor so they can look over it.
The distributor decides a release dates and strategy.
The distributor presents presents the film to exhibitors in film festivals such as cannes and sundance, they agree on when the film should be shown in the cinema.
Marketing is a big part of distributing.
There are many ways you can do this.....
